Love Next Door

Shannon and Rob worked at the same place, lived next door to each other for two years, but were just friends. Then one day, for no particular reason, their feelings began to change. They began dating and never looked back. They knew immediately that they were meant to be together.

The engagement proposal was very unique. Shannon woke one morning to find a beautiful sparkling diamond ring on her finger. As she wiped the sleep from her eyes, Rob proposed, and the shocked Shannon said, “Yes!” “He was up all night because every time he got ready to slip the ring on her finger, she would shift or turn in her sleep,” laughs Shannon.

Rob and Shannon planned the wedding together with great enthusiasm. After touring The Southwest School of Art and Craft, in San Antonio, they knew that it was the perfect place for their wedding. With its beautiful hardwood floors, amazing chandeliers and stunning stonewalls with candelabras, it had the perfect ambiance they were looking for. They loved that they could have the ceremony and reception in the same place. Shannon’s used her beautiful dress for the theme. Her delicate ivory gown with a flowing champagne colored sash and an antique broach from Alexia Gavela, added a classic, elegant touch to the wedding.

“Our wedding day was such a dream,” said Shannon. All the bridesmaids came to the hotel in the morning for hair and makeup and mimosas while the guys got ready at Shannon and Rob’s house. “The guys had to take turns in front of the computer watching a video of, How to tie a Tie,” jokes Rob. “It was hilarious watching them all line up in front of the computer trying to learn.” The same pastor that married Shannon’s parents married Rob and Shannon. Beatles music played, as she walked down the aisle to “Something,” on the trip back down the aisle as husband and wife to “Here Comes the Sun.”

Immediately following the ceremony, the 175 guests went out into the gorgeous garden for cocktail hour. They were treated to passed appetizers and cocktails while the best man and maid of honor proposed a toast on a balcony overlooking the garden and all the guests. Shannon and Rob had a photo booth at the reception that was a huge hit with the guests. Everyone had a blast getting in there and making funny faces and then writing messages to the bride and groom in a scrapbook. After the cocktail hour, the caterer set up the chapel for the reception. All the guests were then invited in for the buffet. After the meal, The Swindles played for the festivities.

“The day went so fast,” says Shannon. “We had such a great time with our family, friends and wedding party.” Before Shannon and Rob left the wedding, they shared a few moments alone in the chapel and just danced in the silence. “We took it all in and had a moment to remember how much we loved each other,” said Shannon. They spent their first night as man and wife at a great boutique hotel in downtown San Antonio called the Havana Inn.

The happy couple left for Cancun the very next morning, and spent a week relaxing on the beach and basking in the memories of their “Special Day.” “Sometimes love can be right next door!”
